LOLLL Umpire/Junior Umpire Program Structure

Age Requirements

• Paid Umpires must be at least League Age 13
• Volunteer Umpires must be League age 12 ( this is to gain experience ). They are allowed to do AA Division
• League Age 13-16 years old: may umpire the AAA - Majors Divisions for both baseball and softball
• 17 years old and up: may umpire the AAA - Senior Divisions for both baseball and softball

Note: Umpires aged 18 and up must complete a background check through Little League prior to umpiring

Umpire Requirements

• Umpires must complete training administered by the LOLLL Umpire Program or by a third-party Umpire Program
• Umpires must be approved by the LOLLL Board of Directors and League U.I.C.
• Umpires are required to show up 15 minutes prior to their games start time and are required to conduct a plate meeting with the managers of said game 5 minutes prior to start time
• Umpires are required to report any incidents that happen in their game to the League U.I.C. and League President within 24 Hours
• Umpires are allowed to deal with any on-field issues but are not allowed to handle any off-field issues
  • If any off-field issues arise, the umpire must:
    • Send both teams to the dugout
    • Alert a Director On Duty of the issue
    • Wait until the issue is handled and resume play

Note: LOLLL has a zero tolerance policy towards unruly or vulgar umpires and may suspend or remove umpires from the program for violating any of Little Leagues Code of Conduct

Note: Umpires are prohibited from umpiring in any game of which a family member plays or coaches in and are also not allowed to umpire a division that they themselves coach in

                Example: If your sister plays in Minor A Softball, you are not eligible to umpire any game in the Minor A Softball Division

Game Coordinator - If no adult umpire is present

• The junior umpire must alert the Director On Duty
• The Director On Duty will select a Game Coordinator for that specific game
• The Director must ensure the Game Coordinator is made known of and is in accordance with Rule 9.03 of the Little League Rule Book

The Umpire Uniform – Umpires are required to wear:

• An umpire hat/cap ( Provided by Little league for JR Umpires)
• An umpire shirt ( Provided by Little league for JR Umpires)
• Gray or Dark Color pants ( No Shorts)
• Black Belt
• An indicator for balls/strikes/outs/innings ( Provided by Little league for JR Umpires)
• Closed-toe shoes, preferably all black or black and white
  • Turf shoes are recommended ( Sneakers)

Compensation - 2 service hours per game

Adult umpires

• Junior/Senior division games - $70
• Major/AAA division games - $60

Junior umpires ( League Age 13 -17)

• Field umpire - $30
• Plate umpire - $40

Junior umpires ( League Age 12)

• Field umpire - Volunteer / Concession Food
• Plate umpire - Volunteer / Concession Food
